Launch of the Samsung 8 – Everything You Need To Know

Welcoming the new infinity display, and out with the Galaxy’s home. The Samsung Galaxy S8 was revealed in New York on Wednesday this week.

The S8 offers a much bigger screen, greater than that of the S7, including a curved screen that run over the sides.

Just like many other Android devices, the Home Button has been completely removed on the S8,

Bixby, Samsung's new AI assistant will be launched with the S8. With the market currently quite busy with assistants such as Siri or Alexa.

We will have to wait and see how different Bixby actually is, however Samsung boasts that the assistant will be able to “See, Remand, and Recommend” features already available Siri and Alexa.

A potentially stimulating feature is the ability to monitor behaviour patterns & add in reminders.

From TV’s to Air Con’s, Bixby will be available on all Samsung products. There is a designated Bixby button on the side of the S8, which is unlike its rivals.

Just like the previous “S” series, the S8 can be submerged in water up to 1.5 metres and for as long as 30 minutes.

Amongst other features, users may unlock the phone using facial recognition, although this has been an option in the past.

DJ Kho, president of Samsung's mobile communications business, said onstage at Wednesday's event.

"As you all know, it has been a challenging year for Samsung. A year filled with valuable lessons, hard decisions and important new beginnings."

"The launch of the new device must be perfectly executed for Samsung to gain innovation leadership and to gain market share in the high-end smartphone segment," said Thomas Husson, vice president & principal analyst at research and advisory firm Forrester.

The S8 will be up against the latest iPhone, expected to be launched towards the end of the year. The iPhone 8, yielding high expectations, as this is 10th anniversary for the Iphone.

"Samsung only has a window of opportunity of several months before the launch of the 10th anniversary iPhone," Husson said. "The launch of Samsung's new flagship smartphone is thus key for the brand even though it has managed to reduce its business dependency on smartphones, contrary to Apple."
