The Basics of Link Building

Link building is an important part of SEO, and what you are actually doing by building backlinks, is building authority. If you have no authority, you have no rankings, hence acquiring higher authority links is going to boost your authority, as you gain authority you gain engagement in search results.

What is a backlink? A link is an html reference that allows the user to click and visit a different page.

How many links do you need to rank well? This is completely dependent on the keyword that you’re trying to rank for, as some keywords are more competitive than others, hence the greater the competition, the more backlinks you need to compete. It’s not just about the number of links you have, but more quality.

What is anchor text? Anchor Text is the text found inside the links. A piece of text that describes what the link is all about.

3 Types of Links that you can build.

·         Natural – Great content attracts natural links, you post something on your blog, and people automatically share and link back to your content. This is the best form of link building.

·         Outreach – This is where you simply ask for links back to your website from valuable content that you provide. This is a great way to start building links.

·         Self-Created – Creating off-page content such as articles, guest posts and videos and link back to your website.

The more natural a link looks, the greater value it provides to your backlinking strategy.
