What's next for NASA’s New Astronaut Class?

NASA has announced its class of 2017 - twelve wannabe astronauts who could be next in line to go into space.

The class, which comprises of seven men and five ladies matured in the vicinity of 29 and 42, is comprised of specialists, researchers, designers and pilots. Two were beforehand understudies at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Between them, they have worked in submarines, doctor's facilities, college address lobbies, cockpits and war vessels. One was even an ice driller in Antarctica, and filled in as a business angler in Alaska.

They were chosen from among more than 18,300 hopefuls, who connected to wind up NASA space explorers over a year back, and make up the biggest space explorer class since 2000.

"We look forward to the energy and talent of these astronauts fuelling our exciting future of discovery," said acting NASA Administrator Robert Lightfoot.

"Between expanding the crew on board the space station to conduct more research than ever before, and making preparations to send humans farther into space than we've ever been, we are going to keep them busy."

The space traveller competitors will come back to NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston in August, to start two years of preparing.

In the end, they could wind up performing research on the International Space Station, or flying past the moon in NASA's Orion shuttle to investigate profound space.

"These are 12 men and women whose personal excellence and whose personal courage will carry our nation to even greater heights of discovery," said US Vice President Mike Pence.
